Would you be a good fit as a Nurse Educator for a Pharmaceutical Company?

Did you know that pharmaceutical companies hire nurses? No, not in a sales role, but as educators. Nurse educators play a crucial role in bridging the gap between the pharmaceutical companies and patient care. These professionals leverage their clinical expertise to educate healthcare providers on the latest advancements in pharmaceutical treatments, ensuring that patients receive optimal care. They frequently work with the sales rep as the expert when they go into meetings with health care professionals. You may have even met them when sales reps call on your unit and didn’t even realize it.

As a matter of fact, health care providers will frequently be excited that another health care professional is coming to speak to them about a disease or product without getting a sales pitch. They look forward to having discussions with people they consider to be colleagues. You are “one of them”, and are treated accordingly.

Amplity Health is currently hiring Oncology Nurse Educators in multiple territories. 

Amplity is a health care company that hires people on a limited contract basis to fulfill its customers needs. Here’s how it typically works:

1. Partnership with Pharmaceutical Companies:

As a contracted Oncology Nurse Educator, you will be employed by Amplity Health, which partners with pharmaceutical and biotech companies to provide specialized services. Your primary responsibility is to support these companies by educating healthcare providers (HCPs) on the latest oncology treatments and best practices.

2. Training and Education:

Before you start interacting with HCPs, you’ll receive comprehensive training from Amplity Health. This training will cover the specific pharmaceutical products you’ll be educating about, the company’s standards, and the latest industry guidelines. This ensures that you are well-prepared to provide accurate and valuable information. You will also frequently get additional disease and drug specific training from the pharmaceutical company you are contracted to. You will only work for the one company you are contracted to; they will never expect you to work for multiple companies at one time within their organization.

What you will need for to be considered for this position

1. 1. You have to be an RN, with a BSN.
   2. Licensed. You have to be licensed, and in good standing. You do not need to be licensed in every state in your territory. You usually don’t even need to be licensed in a compact state.
   3. Oncology Experience. You should have at least 3 years of oncology experience, and if you have your OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse), even better.
   4. Vaccinations. All vaccinations, including Covid, must be up to date.
   5. Communication Skills. They will most likely test you on this as part of your interview. I had to give a short Power Point presentation as part of my interview process with Amplity. This is just to prove that you are comfortable speaking on a subject as an expert, to a group of people you don’t know. If you do need to do one, they will give you further instructions when you start the interview process. Usually they request 3-5 slides, to be presented over 5-10 minutes. I’ve heard of companies letting you present on whatever subject you prefer, and others want it done on their product. They will give you all of the details during the process.
   6. Bonus experience: Experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator, in pharma sales, or with injectables is a bonus.
